  • 1 piece large egg
  • 30 ml whole milk
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 20 g unsalted butter for caramel
  • 30 ml heavy cream

  1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees Celsius (350 Fahrenheit).
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk the large egg and granulated sugar until pale and fluffy.
  3. Add melted unsalted butter and vanilla extract to the egg mixture and mix well.
  4. Sift all purpose flour and baking powder into the bowl and gently fold to combine without overmixing.
  5. Add whole milk and fold gently until batter is smooth.
  6. For batter into a greased small pie pan or tart tin.
  7. Bake in preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  8. While cake bakes, prepare caramel: in a small saucepan, heat granulated sugar over medium heat without stirring until it melts and turns amber color.
  9. Remove from heat and carefully stir in unsalted butter until melted and combined.
  10. Slowly add heavy cream while stirring; be cautious as mixture will bubble.
