  • 200 g potato peeled and thinly sliced
  • 100 ml whole milk
  • 10 g unsalted butter
  • 1 piece garlic clove minced
  • 30 g grated cheddar cheese
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 pinch black pepper ground
  • 1 pinch dried thyme

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 190 degrees Celsius (375 Fahrenheit).
  2. Rub a small baking dish with half the minced garlic clove and then butter it with half the unsalted butter.
  3. Arrange half the sliced potatoes evenly in the baking dish.
  4. Sprinkle half the salt, black pepper, and dried thyme over the potatoes.
  5. For half the whole milk evenly over the potatoes.
  6. Sprinkle half the grated cheddar cheese on top.
  7. Repeat layering with remaining potatoes, salt, pepper, thyme, milk, and cheese.
  8. Dot the top with remaining unsalted butter pieces.
  9. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes.
  10. Remove foil and bake uncovered for another 20 minutes or until potatoes are tender and top is golden brown.
  11. Let the gratin rest for 5 minutes before serving.
