- 0.5 teaspoon baking powder
- 0.25 teaspoon baking soda
- 0.25 teaspoon salt
- 30 g unsalted butter softened
- 45 ml whole milk
- 0.5 piece large egg
- 0.25 teaspoon peppermint extract
- 15 g semisweet chocolate chips
- 40 g powdered sugar
- 20 g unsalted butter softened for frosting
- 10 ml whole milk for frosting
- 0.125 teaspoon peppermint extract for frosting
- 5 g dark chocolate shavings for garnish

Instructions
- Preheat oven to 175 degrees Celsius (350 degrees Fahrenheit).
- Line a muffin tin with one cupcake liner.
- In a medium bowl, sift together all-purpose flour, unsweetened cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In a separate large bowl, cream the softened unsalted butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy using a hand mixer.
- Add the half large egg and peppermint extract to the butter mixture and beat until combined.
- Alternately add the dry ingredients and whole milk to the wet mixture, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
- Fold in the semisweet chocolate chips gently with a spatula.
- Spoon the batter evenly into the cupcake liner, filling about two-thirds full.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 18 to 20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Remove cupcakes from oven and let cool in the tin for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- For the frosting, beat the softened unsalted butter until creamy.
- Gradually add powdered sugar, whole milk, and peppermint extract to the butter and beat until smooth and fluffy.
- Once cupcakes are completely cool, pipe or spread the frosting on top.
- Garnish each cupcake with dark chocolate shavings for an elegant finish.
