Instructions

  1. Peel and dice the tart apple into small pieces about 1 cm in size.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine all purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and ground cinnamon.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together whole milk, beaten large egg, and vanilla extract until well blended.
  4. For the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined; do not overmix.
  5. Fold the diced apples into the batter carefully to distribute evenly.
  6. Heat vegetable oil in a deep frying pan or pot to 180 degrees Celsius (use a thermometer if available).
  7. Using a tablespoon, drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil, frying 2-3 fritters at a time to avoid crowding.
  8. Fry each fritter for about 2-3 minutes per side or until golden brown and cooked through.
  9. Use a slotted spoon to remove fritters and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  10. Once slightly cooled, dust the apple fritters with powdered sugar before serving.

Tips

  • Use tart apples like Granny Smith for a nice balance of sweet and tart flavor.
  • Do not overmix the batter to keep fritters light and fluffy.
  • Maintain oil temperature to avoid greasy fritters.
