Instructions
- In a small bowl, combine lukewarm whole milk and active dry yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine all purpose flour, granulated sugar, and salt.
- Add the yeast mixture, melted unsalted butter, and beaten egg to the dry ingredients.
- Mix all ingredients until a dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for about 8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a clean cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- After rising, punch down the dough and gently knead in the diced peeled apple pieces.
- Divide the dough into equal portions and shape each into a round bun.
- Place buns on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, cover, and let rise for another 30 minutes.
- Brush the tops of the buns with a little water and sprinkle poppy seeds evenly over them.
- Preheat the oven to 180C (350F). Bake the buns for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
- Remove from oven and let cool on a wire rack before serving.
Tips
- Use lukewarm milk to activate the yeast properly.
