Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine lukewarm whole milk and active dry yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, add all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, and a pinch of salt. Mix well.
  3. Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and add the yeast mixture, softened unsalted butter, and large egg.
  4. Mix all ingredients until a sticky dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down the dough gently and roll it out to about 1 cm thickness on a floured surface.
  7. Use a round cutter (about 7 cm diameter) to cut out doughnut shapes and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  8. Cover the doughnuts with a towel and let them rise for another 30 minutes until puffy.
  9. Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan to 175 degrees Celsius (350 degrees Fahrenheit).
  10. Carefully fry the doughnuts in batches for about 2 minutes per side or until golden brown.
  11. Remove doughnuts with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  12. Once cooled slightly, dust the doughnuts generously with powdered sugar.

Tips

  • Make sure the milk is lukewarm to activate the yeast properly.
  • Do not overheat the oil to avoid burning the doughnuts.
  • Let the dough rise fully for a light and fluffy texture.
