Instructions
- In a small bowl, dissolve active dry yeast in lukewarm whole milk and let it sit for 10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine all purpose flour, granulated sugar, and salt.
- Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and add the yeast mixture, large egg, softened unsalted butter, and orange blossom water.
- Mix all ingredients together until a sticky dough forms.
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a clean cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 to 1.5 hours until doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius (350 degrees Fahrenheit).
- Punch down the risen dough and shape it into a round loaf about 20 cm in diameter.
- Place the shaped dough on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Cover the dough again and let it rest for 30 minutes to rise slightly.
- Brush the top of the dough lightly with milk or beaten egg for a golden crust.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes until golden brown and cooked through.
- Remove from oven and let cool on a wire rack.
- Once cooled, dust the top with powdered sugar before serving.
Tips
- Use lukewarm milk to activate the yeast properly.
- Knead the dough well to develop gluten for a soft texture.
- Let the dough rise in a warm, draft-free area.
