  • 100 g all purpose flour
  • 50 g unsalted butter cold diced
  • 30 g granulated sugar
  • 80 g fresh strawberries sliced
  • 5 g powdered sugar for dusting
  • 0.5 teaspoon vanilla extract

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius (350 degrees Fahrenheit).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine all purpose flour and granulated sugar.
  3. Add cold diced unsalted butter to the flour mixture.
  4. Use your fingers or a pastry cutter to blend the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  5. Press two thirds of the dough evenly into the bottom of a greased 15cm square baking pan to form the base.
  6. Bake the base in the preheated oven for 12 minutes until lightly golden.
  7. Remove the base from the oven and evenly spread the sliced fresh strawberries over it.
  8. Sprinkle vanilla extract over the strawberries gently.
  9. Crumble the remaining dough over the strawberry layer to form the topping.
  10. Return the pan to the oven and bake for another 15 minutes until the topping is golden brown.
  11. Remove the dessert bars from the oven and let them cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.
  12. Once cooled, dust the top with powdered sugar.
  13. Cut into bars and serve.
